Overview
In this project we wondered and wandering with water. Each Thursday we went to a different body of water to experience how we affect the water, how the water affects us, how we can help keep it clean and protected. In the end we created a box and mini book telling about our research and our perspectives before and after the project.
WanderingThe very first step for the project was to wander. We went to a new place every Thursday. Such as, Chollas Lake, Coronado, The San Diego River, and more. My favorite wandering was when we went to La Jolla Shore. I had been to La Jolla many times before, but this one felt different. We were able to go snorkeling, which I had never gone before and did not like at all. I ended up ditching the snorkel and just went swimming. Once we were done we got a chance to go play in the water. I had never seen such a calm day at the beach. If there were waves they didn't have any power. Never was I so relaxed in the water.
ResearchAfter the wondering we had to pick one topic or wondering that made us the most curious. We were told not to pick something with a yes or no answer, but something that we could research and learn about through the math lense, physics lense, and the humanities lense. It took me some time to create a question that I could really find more information about. My question was, "How will droughts affect San Diego in the past, present, and future?" From this wondering I was able to find many documents talking about droughts from the 1940's and lots of information about the current drought we are in. The connection between these two droughts were uncanny. Many of the reason for the past drought parallel the causes for today. As well as ways that they solved their problems could be the solution for today.

WonderingAfter each day of wandering we had to wonder. This was the time I did not like very much. We would have to sit away from our friends and write. I've never been one to write. I would write the bare minimum just to keep the day moving. Once we got back to the classroom we had to type our wonderings. This was the only time I would get any solid questions. When I started to type the questions would flow out of me. All the wonderings I had just typed lead me to so many more wonderings. It was the typing that lead me to my next step; picking a topic.
Final ProductFor our final product we created a box with our math lense, our discoverings, and a brief overview about our entire project. This was created with my partner Carley. She also was curious about how the drought affects us. We worked together finding data for our graph which compared the average rainfall in San Diego, the amount of water used, and the amount of water imported. We noticed many things about our graph, one of them being that there was a major spike in the data for rainfall in 2005. As well as that for the past few years we have managed to use less water than we imported. With our discovering we talked about a few different resources we used. Such as articles, maps, and our own wanderings. The other final product I made was a booklet about what I thought about the drought before I knew details.
